On October 2nd, at 01:35 a.m., Iberia’s first flight from Madrid to Cordoba will leave for the second-largest city in Argentina. Iberia will become the first European airline to fly non-stop this route.
The first Iberia flight between Madrid – Cordoba will depart fully booked. It is expected that nearly 70,000 passengers will fly on the route during the first year of operation. With the new flight, Iberia could raise the total number of passengers it carries between Spain and Argentina each year to above 500,000
The opening of this route is expected to bring substantial benefits to Cordoba, Argentina’s second-largest city after the capital, Buenos Aires. It will facilitate business travel, tourism, and reuniting families with members on both sides of the Atlantic. Iberia cargo holds can carry Cordoba’s exports direct to Madrid for distribution throughout Europe.
Thanks to this new flight, Iberia will increase 16% its seat offer to Argentina – more than 1,000 additional flights a week – In terms of seat capacity, this amounts to a 16% increase – or more than 1,000 additional seats per week. Argentina is therefore Iberia’s largest growth area in 2010. Currently, the Spanish airline offers 17 return flights between Spain and Argentina.
