An air stewardess has been charged with trying to smuggle £120,000 worth of cocaine into the UK on a flight from South Africa.

Elphia Dlamini, 42, was arrested at Heathrow Airport on Saturday morning after officials found about 3kg of the Class A drug during cabin crew checks, the UK Border Agency said.

She was a member of the crew on South African Airways flight SA236 from Johannesburg to London.

The drugs, which were discovered by a sniffer dog, had an estimated street value of around £120,000, according to officials.

Dlamini, from Cape Town in South Africa, is due to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court today charged with attempting to import a Class A drug.
