This evening’s opening ceremony, hosted by Aaron Adderley, General Manager, L.F. Wade International Airport Bermuda, set a lively tone for an intensive two days of discussion and strategic planning. Delegates from 71 countries were welcomed by His Excellency the Governor Sir Richard Gozney, the Bermuda Transport Minister Terry Lister, the US Consul to Bermuda Ms. Grace Shelton, and ACI Chair Max Moore-Wilton.
Delegates followed the colourful Bermuda Gombey dancers after their performance to the exhibition hall where over 40 exhibitors and 60 booths present cutting edge solutions and products for the airport industry. This is the largest joint ACI World and LAC business exhibition to date, bringing together representatives in the fields of safety, security, telecommunications, airport development, I.T., ground handling, baggage systems, runway maintenance, passenger processing, airport retail, food and beverages, advertising, foreign exchange, and consultancies.
“Airports on the global stage: charting the course” is the theme of this year’s annual two-day conference. The keynote speaker is Michael Rogers, futurist in residence at the New York Times. He will look at several influential trends, including the social effects of climate change, the impact of the growing middle class, and technology’s role in shaping the future global business environment. In succession, five interactive panel sessions will develop the themes of aviation business opportunities, safety priorities, regulatory requirements, meeting environmental priorities and parameters of disaster management. Session moderators and panelists represent all branches of the industry: airports, airlines, air navigation service providers, government, regulators, aviation manufacturers and business partners. As such, collaborative and partnership opportunities will be recurring themes throughout the conference.
