China Airlines is hosting a series of celebrations for the ''Journey with a caring smile – Happy 50th anniversary''. Today, a kick-off press conference spotlighted by inviting CAL's first captain, Mr. C.K. Lien to display an aircraft model which was the first passenger plane used by CAL. In addition, CAL also lunched a ''Photos of the Most Memorable Moments with CAL'' website solicitation campaign, with prizes including first, business and economy class tickets.
December 16th, 1959, incepted and operated by 26 staff, China airlines launched its first commercial route from Sungshan to Sun Moon Lake with a refurbished military PBY-5A aircraft, carrying a total of 24 passengers. To celebrate this memorable milestone, Captain Lien shared the saga of making such a historical journey and made a début for the PBY-5A passenger aircraft model. It took more than six months to rebuild the aircraft in model by imitating it from reference photos of PBY-5A, and countless consulting between Captain Lien and the model maker. Related products will be available on the market for collection at the end of September.
''Life is indispensable with China airlines'', in an effort to inviting the public to share their precious memories with CAL, a ''Photos of the Most Memorable Moments with CAL'' website solicitation campaign is held from Sep 14th to October 31st. Participants could simply upload any and all CAL related photos, collections or souvenirs with a brief note or diary to the exclusive campaign page on CAL website www.china-airlines.com. The rewarding criteria will be based largely on the aging, rarity, thematic and narratives of the information provided.
