More than 150 people escaped alive after a US Airways Airbus made an emergency landing on the Hudson River next to Manhattan tonight after flying into a flock of birds.
Survivors and officials said that all 155 people on board left the aircraft through emergency exits, with some standing on the wing before being rescued by a ferry and police launches that sped to the fuselage after the aircraft hit the icy water.
At least 28 people were injured in the crash landing. One flight attendant suffered a broken leg and a married couple were both suffering from hypothermia. Most of the casualties were being cared for in a triage centre in New Jersey.
Individuals who believe they may have family members on board flight 1549 may call US Airways at (800) 679-8215.
US Airways says airline officials are in direct contact with local, state and national authorities and are cooperating fully with emergency-response efforts
