WestJet today (23rd) announced it will fly 50,336 guests on 434 flights today, setting a new single-day record for the airline. The previous record was 49,545 guests on 418 flights, set on October 8, 2010, the Friday of the Thanksgiving long weekend.
On average, WestJet flies approximately 40,000 guests per day across its 70-city network each day.
"Christmas is the busiest travel period of the year and today, we’re thrilled that more people have chosen to fly with us today than ever before," said Bob Cummings, Executive Vice-President, Marketing, Sales and Guest Experience. "On behalf of our more than 8,000 WestJetters who work hard every day to take care of our guests, especially those travelling at this special time of year, I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season."
Of special note to younger guests, WestJet also advises that its pilots have noted increased activity in the extreme northern skies in the last few nights, possibly test flights involving a small sleigh-like object that appears to have nine separate power sources. The airline will continue to monitor the situation.
