THY commences first direct flight to Toronto

Seçtiklerimiz

Transportation Minister Binali Yıldırım will be aboard the first THY direct flight from İstanbul to Toronto on Saturday.

THY Director General Temel Kotil, businessmen and journalists will also fly to Toronto. A ceremony will be held at the Toronto Pearson International Airport after the THY plane lands. Yıldırım will deliver a speech at the ceremony. THY will use Airbus 330 and 340 aircraft on the anticipated 11 hour-long Istanbul-Toronto trip.

THY will fly between the two cities three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Toronto is the 117th international destination of THY. Turkey and Canada signed a civil aviation agreement in March 2009. After the two countries initiated the bilateral air transportation agreement, which allows scheduled flights, they agreed to assign multiple airline companies from both countries with the first permits granted to THY and Air Canada. Two destinations each from Turkey and Canada were set as scheduled flight destinations, and the airlines were allowed to make three passenger and three cargo flights weekly and set up third-party code sharing on the flights.

Meanwhile, THY announced Thursday it would launch two additional new international flights. A written statement issued by the company said it would start flights between İstanbul and Bologna and İzmir and Athens.

THY is also set to begin flights to Lviv, the largest city in western Ukraine, on July 27, the air carrier said Friday. Lviv will be THY’s 118th international destination and the company’s sixth in Ukraine after Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kiev, Odessa and Simferopol. Round-trip tickets will be sold at prices starting from 99 euros for flights on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays.
