After a distinguished service of 33 years with Gulf Air, senior most Bahraini pilot, Captain Abdul Sattar Al Alawi retired from service.
In a fond farewell held at the Gulf Air headquarters, Undersecretary for Civil Aviation Affairs and his longtime friend and colleague Captain Abdulrahman Al Gaoud, Gulf Air Deputy Chief Executive Officer Capt. Maher Al Musallam, Gulf Air Chief Operations Officer Capt. Nasser Al Salmi, Gulf Air Director Flight Operations Capt. Hassan Falamarzi and a large number of his colleagues wished him good luck and a good life.
Capt. Sattar, who has clocked close to 20000 flying hours, joined Gulf Air on 20 June 1977 and went to the College of Air Training, Southampton UK, where he completed his training in 1979 and returned to Bahrain to commence his AB Initio training on the B737. He also trained with Cathay Pacific to complete his Tri-Star conversion for which Gulf Air was well known in the 70s and 80s.
In November 1985 he transferred back to the B737 for his command upgrade, which he completed successfully and became a line training captain in 1988. Capt. Sattar also completed the A320 conversion in Toulouse, France with Airbus. After flying many types of aircraft including the A330 and A340, he was promoted to take over the position of Assistant Chief Pilot Standard in 1999 and then he became Manager Fleet Training for the A340 in 2002.
