Delta & Korean Air Invest USD 550 Million in Canada’s WestJet
Delta Air Lines and Korean Air have announced a strategic investment to acquire a combined 25 % equity stake in WestJet Airlines for US $550 million from private equity firm Onex Corporation.
Under the agreement, Delta will invest US $330 million for a 15 % stake, while Korean Air will invest US $220 million for a 10 % stake.
Following the completion of their investment, Delta intends to transfer a 2.3 % stake in WestJet to its joint-venture partner Air France‑KLM for US $50 million, subject to regulatory approvals.
The move builds on existing codeshare and network partnerships between the airlines and aims to deepen connectivity across North America, Europe and Asia. It comes at a time of evolving travel dynamics between Canada and the United States, creating both challenge and opportunity for trans-border aviation.
