AirTran Airways arrived at Port Columbus Nov. 6, 2008, offering Central Ohio travelers four daily nonstop flights to three destinations. On the occasion of its first anniversary, AirTran’s expanded service includes six and soon to be seven daily nonstop flights: three to Atlanta, one each to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Fort Myers. The airline recently announced an additional flight to Fort Myers effective Dec. 17.
AirTran is the only Port Columbus airline to offer nonstop service to Fort Myers and Fort Lauderdale. This week Port Columbus is celebrating AirTran Airways’ one-year anniversary with banners and balloons at the airline’s ticket counters and Concourse C gates. “AirTran’s first year of success at Port Columbus is truly cause for celebration,” said David Whitaker, Vice President of Business Development & Communications for the Columbus Regional Airport Authority. “The airline has grown its share of the Columbus market to 5.5 percent in a relatively short period of time. We appreciate AirTran’s investment in our community and we thank our Port Columbus customers for responding to AirTran’s expanded service.” AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., and a Fortune 1000 company, has been ranked the number one low cost carrier in the Airline Quality Rating study for the past two years. AirTran is the only major airline with Wi-Fi on every flight and offers coast-to-coast service on North America’s newest all-Boeing fleet of 717 and 737 aircraft. Its low-cost, high-quality product also includes assigned seating, Business Class and complimentary XM Satellite Radio on every flight.
