Fly for Rs 500, screams ads from several airlines

Seçtiklerimiz

Fly for Rs 500, screams ads from several airlines. And you thought consolidation in the industry was supposed to lead to “rational pricing”. While the Rs 500 figure may only be a fraction of what actually goes into the airline coffers, it does signify a marketing platform that airlines are being forced to take to appear affordable to the price-sensitive traveller.

This is true even for established full-service carriers like Jet Airways and Air India. Air India came out with its Rs 999 tickets which Jet countered with Rs 500 tickets. Soon SpiceJet and GoAir pitched in and it was back to the good-old days of advertising cheap fares. Deccan, too, is back to its ways of offering free tickets but this time it would be for those who fly the revamped airline six times.
