THE electronics arm of Singapore Technologies (ST) Engineering has signed a memorandum of understanding with Omani aviation and training consultancy Sky Seven to promote Oman’s first Virtual Aerodrome Laboratory (VAL) for airport training and simulation.
The MOU also includes cooperation between the two companies in projects such as skills training for aviation professionals, developing learning systems and educational application in schools and colleges.
Equipped with an immersive 120-degree screen, the VAL recreates a realistic airport aerodrome to simulate challenging and even dangerous real-life situations for students. Trainees will be taught airport planning and design, air traffic management and crisis simulation, among others. Students can also role-play as airport staff to gain practical skills.
Chan Hua Tek, executive vice-president and general manager of ST Electronics (Training & Simulation Systems) said that the VAL will enable trainees to hone their skills in a controlled yet highly realistic environment.
