TAP Air Portugal Privatization Process Gains Momentum
Lisbon, July 2025 – The Portuguese government has reaffirmed its commitment to privatizing TAP Air Portugal, stating that the process is entering its final stages. According to government officials, investor interest remains strong, with several aviation groups and financial entities reportedly in talks.
The privatization aims to sell up to 51% of the airline’s capital to a strategic partner, while maintaining state influence over key decisions. Portugal’s Finance Minister emphasized that the process will prioritize safeguarding national interests and ensuring TAP’s long-term viability.
The state currently holds full ownership of TAP after nationalizing the airline in 2020 during the COVID-19 crisis. The company has since undergone significant restructuring and returned to profitability in recent quarters, making it an attractive asset in the global aviation market.
Final bids are expected to be submitted in the coming months, with the deal potentially closing before the end of 2025.
