No injuries after small plane crash lands in Smithfield

Emergency crews were called to an airplane crash Tuesday afternoon, north of the Logan Cache Airport. The plane reportedly had engine problems and crash landed in a field, near 450 W 600 S in Smithfield.

 

According to emergency radio traffic, paramedics, fire fighters, and law enforcement were all paged to the crash around 5:45 p.m. When they located the plane, all of the occupants were out of the aircraft and no injuries were reported.

 

The plane was a small engine aircraft owned by Leading Edge Aviation. It is used to train students, who are seeking their pilot’s license.
The pilot of the aircraft told emergency crews the plane suffered engine problems shortly after takeoff, prompting them to land in the field.

 

The plane appeared to land upright, on its wheels, and didn’t appear to sustain any damage. The FAA and NTSB will be investigating the exact cause of the crash
