IndiGo Finalizes Firm Order for 30 Additional Airbus A350-900 Aircraft
New Delhi, October 17, 2025 – India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has finalized a firm order for 30 additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft, converting a Memorandum of Understanding signed in June into a confirmed purchase agreement. With this new order, IndiGo’s total A350 backlog rises to 60 aircraft, marking a decisive step in its expansion into the long-haul international market.
Strengthening IndiGo’s Global Ambition
The deal underscores IndiGo’s ambition to become a major global carrier by the end of the decade. Leveraging the A350’s exceptional range, efficiency, and passenger comfort, the airline aims to expand its international footprint and enhance connectivity between India and destinations across Asia, Europe, and North America.
“This is a special day for IndiGo as we solidify our commitment to expanding our international network,” said Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo. “Our firm order for 30 additional A350-900s reflects our confidence in India’s aviation growth and our strong partnership with Airbus. These aircraft will play a pivotal role in enabling IndiGo to connect India with more destinations worldwide.”
Airbus–IndiGo Partnership Expands Further
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President, Commercial Aircraft Sales at Airbus, noted that the A350’s fuel efficiency, range, and comfort align perfectly with IndiGo’s long-haul ambitions. “We are proud to continue supporting IndiGo, one of the fastest-growing airlines in the world, as it enters new intercontinental markets,” he said.
The A350, recognized as the world’s most modern and efficient widebody aircraft in the 300–410 seat category, delivers up to 25% lower fuel burn and CO₂ emissions compared to previous-generation competitors. The aircraft also supports operations with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) today, with Airbus targeting 100% SAF capability by 2030.
India’s Aviation Growth Accelerates
India, the world’s fastest-growing aviation market, continues to witness rising international travel demand fueled by economic expansion and higher disposable incomes. Airbus has been a strategic partner in India’s aviation journey for over five decades—while the A320 Family has driven the democratization of domestic air travel, the A350 is now poised to help Indian carriers capture global long-haul markets.
At the end of September 2025, the A350 program had secured over 1,400 orders from 63 customers worldwide, underscoring its position as the preferred aircraft for sustainable long-haul operations.
