Bahrain became low-cost carrier flydubai's 10th destination as flight FZ015 from Dubai touched down at the Bahrain International Airport.
The inaugural flight comes immediately after flydubai took delivery of its sixth aircraft and less than a month after the Dubai Airshow, where financing, logistics and maintenance deals worth nearly $200m were announced. Welcoming the flight, Civil Aviation Affairs assistant under-secretary for aviation services Ahmet Nemat Ali said the new service is another great way for Bahrain to showcase the country, as a centre for tourism as well as business, we are seeing strong growth in the number of visitors to Bahrain and we hope to see many more from the UAE. We are old friends with a long history. “We are pleased to welcome flydubai to Bahrain, as they provide a service which complements that provided by existing carriers operating on the Dubai-Bahrain route.” Among passengers on the flight was flydubai chief executive officer Ghaith Al Ghaith, who spoke at a press conference on arrival. “Bahrain is extremely important to intra-GCC trade. For many businesses the country represents significant opportunities and with flydubai's new service they will have more options to visit and assess those opportunities.” He said Dubai is also one of the most popular destinations for Bahraini travellers, whether for business or for pleasure. The airline's twice daily flights to Dubai (FZ016 and FZ022) leave Bahrain International Airport at 8.15am and 9.05pm, and arrive at 10.25am and 11.15pm local time respectively. Flights FZ015 and FZ021 leave Dubai International Airport Terminal 2 at 7.15am and 8.05pm arriving in Bahrain at 7.30am and 8.20pm local time respectively.
