The main runway at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport will close for roughly three weeks this spring for scheduled maintenance. No flights will operate between 12:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. between April 30 and May 19.
The $7 million rehabilitation project will eliminate three flights per day, according to airport director Brian Sprenger, though many of the rescheduled flights will operate using larger aircraft to offset the losses.Repaving the runway is something airports Bozeman’s size have to do about every 15 years, Sprenger said, adding that the airport chose a partial closure to minimize the effect on passengers and the local economy.
Closing the runway entirely would cost the area $2 million per day in economic impact, according to Sprenger, a number that doubles during the busy summer months.
“We’ve tried to make this as minimally invasive as we possibly can,” Sprenger said. “The good news is we’re continuing to have airline service every day during this period.”
