Half of AirAsia routes profitable

Reported in the mMalasyian business times half of Airasia X's routes are profitable. Airasia X CEO Mr azran Osman-Rani stated that the carrier now has an equal mix of profitable and non-profitable routes. AirAsia X's Taipei service broke even after six months of operations, while Mr Osman-Rani expects its London service will need between 12 to 18 months until it breaks even.

Azran Osman-Rani also stated plans to launch services to Incheon and Sydney are “critical” to its long-haul business model, but added he is confident the carrier will eventually be provided with rights to launch services to both destinations (Malaysian Business Times, 18-Feb-2010).

AirAisa X currently serves the following routes from its KUL

  • Abu Dhabi

  • Chengdu

  • Hangzhou

  • Melbourne

  • Gold Coast

  • Perth

  • London Stansted

  • Taipei

  • Tianjin
