The longhaul airbus baptised on the name of Essen has now performed the longest flight in the history of Lufthansa: Five minutes before midnight the flight took off on Wednesday. The airbus A340-600 flew from Munich to Santiago de Chile as a charter flight. On board were passengers bound for a cruise in Latin America.
After 14 hours and 43 minutes the Airbus with the registration D-AIHC landed in the capital city of Chile. The former record holder of the longest Lufthansa flight connected Frankfurt with Honululu on November 25th, 1994 and carried the name of the city of Bremerhaven.One further record could be achieved this week: After a stop in Buenos Aires on Friday morning the Boing 747-400 with the name Cologne and the registration D-ABVR flew to the most southermost airport a Lufthansa aircraft has ever been.
