Ryanair, today (24th Dec) apologised to all passengers affected by some delays and cancellations at its bases in Brussels (Charleroi), Dublin and Düsseldorf Weeze as follows:

Dublin – Due to the closure of the Dublin runway from 1900hrs on the 23rd until 05.00hrs on the 24th, a total of eight Ryanair aircraft had to overnight in Cork and Shannon airports. Four of these aircraft positioned this morning to Dublin, but the remaining four are stuck in Cork and Shannon, because our handling agents have run out of de-icing fluid. The Dublin based fleet is short by four aircraft for today’s programme, and this has been compounded by significant de-icing delays on early morning flights, leading to major delays and cancellations of eight Dublin flights.

Brussels – Charleroi Airport closed from 1900hrs on the 23rd till 08.30hrs on the 24th. While it has reopened on the 24th, seven of Ryanair’s 12 Brussels aircraft are stuck in Lille, Liege and Ostend airports with limited or no de-icing fluid, and will be unable to position back this morning to Charleroi. A total of 12 Ryanair flights on Charleroi based aircraft have been cancelled for the remainder of the day. Charleroi flights operating on non based aircraft (i.e. the aircraft only turnaround in Charleroi) are operating as normal.

Düsseldorf Weeze – Due to major continuing snow falls today, Düsseldorf Weeze is closed all day. 15 Weeze departures today have been cancelled.

Ryanair also confirmed that the vast majority (over 90%)of its remaining operations including over 900 flights at its 40 other bases in the UK, Scandinavia, Germany, Italy, Spain, France and Portugal are continuing to operate normally, with the exception of those flights which connect to these airports in Brussels, Dublin and Düsseldorf.

Ryanair advises all passengers to continue to check flight info on www.ryanair.com, where the latest flight info is being continuously updated.

        Ryanair’s CEO Michael O’Leary said:

“I want to sincerely apologise to all Ryanair passengers who have had their Christmas flights delayed or cancelled by these adverse weather conditions and repeated airport closures. Our people are continuing to do everything we can on Christmas Eve to complete the overwhelming majority of our schedule, but those passengers affected by delays and cancellations should apply for refunds or switch to Ryanair flights on later dates through our website at www.ryanair.com.

On behalf of everyone in Ryanair I would like to wish of our passengers, their families and friends and very peaceful Christmas and a very happy New Year.”
