IATA World Financial Symposium and World Passenger Symposium Begin in Istanbul, Hosted by Turkish Airlines
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has officially opened the World Financial Symposium (WFS) and World Passenger Symposium (WPS) in Istanbul, hosted by Turkish Airlines (THY). The event brings together leading decision-makers in aviation, global airline executives, technology innovators and academic experts to discuss the future of airline business models, financial sustainability and digital transformation across the industry.
“Aviation Is the Strongest Bridge Connecting the World”
In his opening remarks, Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, emphasized that aviation plays not only an economic role but also a cultural and social one:
“Aviation brings people together, shortens distances, accelerates trade and makes exploration possible. As Turkish Airlines, we have carried the mission of connecting the world for over 90 years. Being the airline that flies to the most countries globally is the clearest proof of this commitment.”
Bolat noted that, despite challenges in recent years — from the pandemic to global economic fluctuations — the aviation sector has demonstrated remarkable resilience:
“We have made significant progress in digitalization, passenger experience and sustainability. While responding to today’s requirements, we are also shaping the future of aviation.”
Passenger Expectations Are Evolving: Digital, Seamless and Personalized Travel
Throughout the symposium, speakers highlighted the rapid rise of demand for personalized and seamless travel experiences powered by digital tools.
THY’s newly introduced digital payment and wallet platform, TKPAY, was showcased as a key pillar of the airline’s evolving passenger experience strategy.
IATA executives further underlined the growing strategic importance of data security, digital identity and next-generation payment infrastructures across the global aviation landscape.
Economic Outlook and Sector Opportunities
IATA’s economic and sustainability analysts noted that, despite volatility in global trade, the Eurozone shows signs of stabilization with strong potential for passenger demand growth.
According to experts, the medium- and long-term success of the aviation industry will rely on:
- Strengthening airlines’ financial resilience
- Improving operational efficiency
- Advancing digital transformation
- Accelerating deployment of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)
Symposium Continues Through Tomorrow
The event program includes plenary discussions, technical panels and workshops focusing on aviation finance, modern retail models, digital identity solutions and new-generation passenger services. The symposium will conclude tomorrow.
